DEVOTION 006 (R is for Ribba)
I’m always amazed at how the subconscious manifests in the physical world. When I made this, I was craving to be near water—craving to replenish myself. Any hue of blue drew me in, which was odd because it is so different from the colors I usually work with.
This summer, I’ve already spent more time by the water than I have in my entire life. It seems as if this piece was a foreshadowing for what was to come as I have spent the last few weeks learning about the Gullah Geechee natives of the Georgia Coast.
In light of my studies thus far, I decided to name this work “Ribba”, which means “River” in the Gullah language.
